Kippy Marks Plays Thrill Spot: A Lost Queer History Walking Tour

 —  —

Jack Kerouac Alley behind City Lights Bookstore, , 261 Columbus Ave, San Francisco, CA.

The 1954 raid on Tommy’s Place is the stuff of legend: lurid headlines claiming seduction of teenage girls in a lesbian “Vice Academy,” swaggering butches, police graft, political intrigue, and angry legions marshalled by the PTA. Lambda-winning author and visual artist Katie Gilmartin is writing a fictional account deeply rooted in historical fact. Join her on the journey, imagining the lives of our ancestors with humor, passion, and mourning. We'll explore the raid’s impact through performance, music, and visits to key historical sites including the infamous “happy hunting ground for adult debauchees.” With Dulce De Leche, Kippy Marks, and Molly Shaiken. Tour will cover approximately ten blocks with two steep grades. Free!

Offered in joyful collaboration with Openhouse: Housing, Services, & Community for LGBT Seniors. Cosponsored by the GLBT Historical Society. Made possible by grants from the Queer Cultural Center and The Creative Work Fund, a program of the Walter and Elise Haas Fund that also is supported by The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
